For my portfolio I needed to create a personal identity mark. This exercise allowed me to play around in Adobe Illustrator and become more familiar with its tools. While partial to the elephant as a representation of my initials j and n, I ultimately found freehand drawing using my mousepad to result in too unrefined of an image. The addition of shapes in the bottom samples were a result of my exposure to Aaron Draplin.
I preference tested the four versions below amongst friends, family, co-workers, and fellow user experience design colleagues. In total I received 74 votes, and some people cast 2.
1 & 2 reflect my affinity towards retro style. 3 is a stylistic portrayal of my initials, and 4 is a flat logo which I added a shadow to but found the thin lines didn't support this detail well. 1 was clearly the least favorite, with versions of 3, 2 and 4 closely battling it out as winner. I chose 3a as my personal identity mark, which is made up of two futura condensed extrabold 'j's, one flipped upside down.
